Club membership is £10.00 per member per year.

Kano Club (5 to under 8 years boys and girls)

The kano club is a gentle introduction to the sport of judo. Children learn how to behave properly when playing judo, how to fall safely and they start to learn the basic moves, holds and throws used in judo. When they are in the club, their activities are supervised very carefully to minimise the risk of injuries arising from inexperience or inappropriate behaviour.

How much does it cost each week? For all sessions, it will be £3.00 per week. (Non members £4.00)if wish to continue you will need a licence from the British Judo Association please ask at the club.

What equipment do I need? All you need to get started is a judo suit (called a "judogi") and a pair of sandals (called "zori"), worn in the club when you're not on the mat. Often there are second hand suits available, but even brand-new prices start less than £20.00. Please ask for more information when you first go along to the club.

When do the lessons take place? The Kano Club meets every Friday from 7.00pm until 8.00pm.

Junior Mon (8 to 16 years boys and girls)

The Junior club is just the same as the senior club, except that the oldest person you'll be matched against is fifteen. You'll be encouraged to behave properly when playing judo, you'll be taught how to fall safely as well as learning the basic moves, holds and throws used in judo. When you are in the club, your activities will be supervised to minimise the risk of injuries arising from inexperience or inappropriate behaviour.

Can I get a black belt? No, black belts are only available to senior players. However, hard work and dedication at this stage will make it a lot easier to get a black belt when you are eligible. You can become a junior referee.

When do the lessons take place? The Junior Club meets every Friday from 8.00pm until 9.30pm.(ish)

Adult/Youth for anyone 14 years and over

Plymouth Judo Club is geared up for taking on senior players who progress through from the junior ranks, or anyone who starts from scratch at any age. We are also able to train people with special needs or physical disabilities - subject to written medical approval.

How much does it cost each week? For all sessions, it will be £3.50 per week.(Non members £ 4.50)  When you come to the club, you'll be given an application form to be licensed with the British Judo Association. There is a annual fee, but if you visit their site, you'll see that you get quite a lot for your money, including substantial insurance cover.

Can I get a black belt? Yes, Plymouth Judo Club is registered with the British Judo Association, so if you work hard and regularly, you can get a black belt (first Dan) To progress through the twelve Dans of the black belt takes real dedication and ability! If you're interested, you could also become a referee or a coach.

What if I'm not interested in competitions and I don't want to be a black belt? Quite a few people involved in judo think just the way you do - they want a tough, close combat sport, but that's all. The main difference is that you only need to register for Recreational Membership of the British Judo Association per year.

When do the lessons take place? The Senior Club meets every Monday from 7.30pm until 9.30pm.
